Apple in iOS 16 has made some notable changes to the Weather app adding new types of notifications and increasing everything you can see from humidity to temperature to visibility. For many of these new features, Apple has integrated information from Dark Sky into the Weather app Purchased in 2020.

Weather Modules
There have been no major updates to the overall design of the Weather app but Apple did update the information available to you.

Weather apps have long had a few modules that show you information including 10-day forecasts daily temperature air quality precipitation UV index sunset/sunrise time wind humidity feels like temperature visibility and pressure but now you can take advantage of these any one of the modules for more information and quickly exchange between them by tapping the icon in the upper right corner. Temperature
The temperature module displays a graph of the temperature throughout the day including the highest and lowest peaks. This should fix an issue people had with the iOS 15 Weather app where it wasn’t clear when the daily low was measured. The module also provides a textual overview of the weather condition.

In the 10-day forecast, you can view a daily graph of temperature ranges for any given day plus there is an option to view a larger color-coded temperature graph.
Air Quality
The Air Quality Module displays a graph of current air conditions in your area as well as other information about current conditions and the health effects of major pollutants. You can still see a larger map of air quality.

Precipitation
The precipitation module is similar to the precipitation information previously available showing a map of where the storm will hit. Zooming in provides a 12-hour rain forecast. There is also an interface that provides details on the total amount of precipitation over the past 24 hours and When and how much sleet or snow fell.

Feels Like
The module provides a second temperature graph that takes into account humidity wind and other factors so you can get a better idea of what the ambient temperature is like.

UV Index
The UV Index module displays current UV levels and peak UV levels during the day. It will let you know through text if sun protection is recommended.

Sunset/Sunrise
The Sunset and Sunrise module lets you know when sunrise or sunset depends on the time of day and when you can expect the first and last light. It gives you monthly sunrise and sunset averages and total daylight readings.

Wind
The winding module provides daily summaries of current wind conditions and graphs of wind speed and direction throughout the day.

Humidity
The humidity module displays a graph of humidity throughout the day subdivided into six-hour increments. It provides average humidity and dew point.

Visibility
The visibility module provides visibility ranges in miles throughout the day as well as daily summaries.

Pressure
The pressure module displays readings of current pressure throughout the day and whether the pressure is rising or falling.

Severe Weather Notifications
The Weather app in iOS 16 can send notifications when severe weather alerts are issued near you so you can stay ahead of major rainstorms floods hurricanes heat waves tornadoes and more.

You can turn on severe weather alerts for your current location and any locations you add to the Weather app.
According to Apple’s severe weather data Australia Canada Japan China Brazil India Mexico Thailand the United States and most of Europe.
Weather Lock Screen
While not technically part of the Weather app iOS 16 has a dedicated Weather Lock Screen. It depicts the current temperature and displays artwork from the weather app for your location. So if it’s sunny you’ll see the sun or if it’s raining you’ll see the same rain Just like in an animated weather app.

Using the weather widget requires activation of location services.
More Locations
In iOS 15 you could only add up to 20 alternate locations to the Weather app but in iOS 16 you can add a total of 50.
Weather App for iPad
With the iOS 16/iPad OS 16 update there’s finally a weather app for iPad.
